We have an eleven year old boy who has terribly mean relatives and is sent to a special school that has children with special (magical) powers. This book reminded me of Harry Potter which is why I picked it up in the first place. ![]() His scheming aunts decide to send him to Bloor Academy, a school for geniuses where he uses his gifts to discover the truth despite all the dangers that lie ahead. This is what happened to Charlie Bone, and to some of the children he met behind the grim, gray walls of Bloor’s Academy. The fabulous powers of the Red King were passed down through his descendants, after turning up quite unexpectedly, in someone who had no idea where they came from. Read May 2010 and November 2019 Published January 2002 This is a middle grade series so go into it with that mindset! Also some of these have spoilers so don’t read the reviews unless you’ve read the book (or want to be spoiled).
